Texas Snaps Volleyball's Win Streak

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou volleyball team saw its six-match win streak snapped at No. 8 Texas on Wednesday night (Nov. 17) as it fell, 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 17-25), at Gregory Gymnasium. The loss is the Tigers' first since Oct. 23 as it has still won eight of its last 10 contests. Its only losses have come to AVCA Top 10 teams in that span (No. 3 Nebraska and No. 8 Texas). The loss drops Mizzou to 19-9 and 11-7 in Big 12 play.

Freshman Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.) put together a fine match for the Tigers as she tallied eight kills on .292 hitting, continuing her fine play as of late. Senior Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) led Mizzou with nine kills while classmate Paola Ampudia (Cali, Colombia) added seven kills. Mizzou struggled on the attack as it hit just .066 in the match while allowing Texas to hit .378.
Freshman Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) spread 24 assists in the loss while libero Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, Ind.) led Mizzou with eight digs in the set. Kreklow finished second on the team with eight digs as well. Ampudia saw her four-match double-double streak come to an end as she collected just four digs.
The Tigers ran out to a quick 4-2 lead in the first set after a service ace from Vann, but Texas ran off six of the next seven points in the set to take an 8-5 lead. In fact, Texas ran that advantage to 13-5 and ultimately claimed the set, 25-15, as it played well offensively and defensively. Texas hit .500 in the first set while limiting the Tigers to just .075 hitting. Ampudia led Mizzou with four kills in the set while Klein and Henning each added two.
Mizzou played much better in the second set, but still struggled to get balls past the Texas block as its fell, 25-20, in the frame. Through two sets, Henning led Mizzou with five kills on .312 hitting while Vann paced the team with 10 digs through two. Texas hit .388 through the first two sets as reigning Big 12 Player of the Week Juliann Faucette led UT with 11 kills on .318 hitting.
Mizzou began the third set with a much more efficient attack as it ran out to a 10-6 lead. But Texas answered with a run of its own and ran out to an 18-13 lead with an efficient offensive attack. Mizzou hung tough down the stretch, but the Texas attack proved to be too much as it claimed the final frame, 25-17.
