COLUMBIA, MO. - The Missouri Gymnastics team stepped into the spotlight at Missouri's last home football game against Kansas State. The Tiger Gymnasts were recognized during a timeout in the third quarter for their conference and national achievements last season. During the ceremony the gymnasts were presented with rings for their first place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship.
Missouri gymnastics finished third at the Big 12 Championship, with senior Sarah Shire taking home her second straight Big 12 all-around title. After grabbing a first place finish at Regionals, the Tigers advanced to the NCAA National Championship for the first time.
Shire, a four-time All-American, finished the season tied for second on floor and taking the fifth place on vault at the National Event Finals. She leaves the school as the most decorated gymnast in Missouri history.
The 2010-2011 season starts on Friday, Dec. 10 when Mizzou hosts its annual Black and Gold Exhibition meet. The competition starts at 7 p.m. in the Hearnes Center. Fans can keep up with Mizzou Gymnastics on MUTigers.com and on the team's social media sites including Facebook and Twitter.
