"It was a pretty good team effort for us tonight," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "I think we did a nice job of staying focused and I thought we did a lot of the little things well. We were really able to control the play because our defense played pretty well at the net and in the back row."
The defense was the story of the match as Mizzou limited K-State to just .056 hitting, a season-best for the Tigers. Mizzou also set its three-set high with 68 digs, 11 more than its previous best which was set on Wednesday against Kansas. The Tigers also posted 10 blocks, led by seven from Brimmage. The 10 blocks are just three off of the Tigers' season-best mark. In the first two sets alone, Mizzou earned side-out percentages of 75 and 77 percent, respectively.
Aside from Brimmage, the Tiger offense was led by a slew of hitters as six attackers posted at least two kills. Both Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Paola Ampudia (Cali, Colombia) posted eight kills in the match while Henning did so on .278 hitting. Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) added six kills while Caite Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) and Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) each added three.
Kreklow added 10 digs to her stat line for her team-leading ninth double-double this season. Ampudia tallied 12 digs and Klein had 13 as Mizzou saw four players post double-digit dig totals.
Vann pulled in 24 digs in the match as she now owns the league's top two marks for digs in a three-set match this season. Both came this week as she tallied 26 in Wednesday's win over Kansas. Vann, over her last six matches, is averaging 6.36 digs per set and has hit the 20-dig mark in five of those contests. She averaged 8.33 digs per set this week.
Mizzou will return to action next Wednesday as it will play at Colorado in a match that will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com.
