Mizzou Splits Against SIU, Kentucky

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The University of Missouri swimming and diving teams had a strong showing in a tri-meet with Southern Illinois and Kentucky on Saturday in Carbondale, Ill. The men won both meets, 153.00-141.00 over host SIU and 165.50-128.50 over Kentucky, while the women earned a split, a 198.00-100.00 win over SIU and a close 152.00-147.00 loss to Kentucky.

Sophomore Dominique Bouchard was a triple-winner on the day with first-place finishes in 100 back (56.59), 200 back (1:59.81) and the 200 IM (2:06.78). Senior Lauren Lavigna swam 56.94 in the 100 back to place second behind Bouchard.

Junior Emy DiBenigno was also a multiple winner, as she claimed both the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:05.89 and 2:22.17, respectively. Classmate Morgan McCleery finished a close second to DiBenigno in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.31.

In the 200 free, senior Francie Szostak clocked a time of 1:52.50 to win the event. The Tigers also finished one-two in the women's three-meter diving event. Junior Jordan Morcom claimed first-place honors with a score of 300.08, while senior Christina Gailey came in second with 270.30 points.

Junior Michael Lopresti won two events on the day with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 breast. He swam the events in 58.06 and 2:07.34, respectively. Lopresti narrowly beat junior Jowan Qupty, who had a time of 2:07.40 in the 200 breast.

Mizzou claimed wins in both the 100 and 200 back, as senior Roko Simunic won the 100 in 50.55 and junior John Higgins swam 1:51.15 in the 200 for the title.

Junior Yaniv Shnaider also earned a first-place finish with a win in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.73. Additionally, Mizzou's 200 relay team of Simunic, Lopresti, junior Anders Melin and senior Jordan Hawley claimed first in a time of 1:32.54.

The Tiger men next travel to Dallas, Texas, for the Southwest Plunge Oct. 29-30 while women return home to the Mizzou Aquatics Center on Friday, Oct. 29 to face Kansas at 6 p.m.
