Columbia, Mo. -
University of Missouri Head Swimming and Diving Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh announced the hiring of two assistant coaches on Wednesday as Randi Vogel and Andy Grevers have joined his first staff at Mizzou.
Vogel brings collegiate experience both as a student-athlete and as a coach to Columbia. She spent the 2009-10 campaign as an assistant coach at Cincinnati, where she worked with 2010 NCAA 50m Freestyle Champion Josh Schneider. Prior to her time coaching the Bearcats, she coached the University of Cincinnati's Masters Swim Team in the summer of 2009 and has been an instructor at the West Point Swim Camp (United States Army) each of the past two summers.
"Randi brings a lot of excitement to the program, "Head Coach Greg Rhodenbaugh said. " She has a great personality and is an up-and-coming coach in our profession. She comes from a swimming background, so she gets what it takes to be successful from a commitment and procedural standpoint. She really is a student of our sport and brings a great deal of energy, not only from the coaching point of view, but on the recruiting trail as well. We are excited to have Randi join our staff at Mizzou."
A 2007 graduate of Cincinnati, Vogel was named team captain for the Bearcats as a senior and twice earned the Bearcat Leadership Award while completing her degree in communications.
Vogel began her collegiate career at the University of Tennessee where she swam two seasons for the Lady Vols.
The Cincinnati native comes from a strong swimming background. Her father, John Vogel, swam at Tennessee from 1974-77 and her mother, Diane Johannigman, was an all-American at Houston and is the former 100m butterfly American and World record holder.
Grevers brings a strong collegiate and club coaching background to Missouri. He served three years as a volunteer assistant at Northwestern, where he worked with national champions Mike Alexandrov, Kyle Bubolz, Bruno Barbie and his brother, 2008 U.S. Olympian Matt Grevers. He also led Northwestern's Wildcat Aquatics Club program, which produced three national records and 27 state records under his watch.
"Andy brings a lot of the same traits as Randi (Vogel), but only on the male side of the equation," Rhodenbaugh said. "Andy has had an interesting trek through coaching. He started coaching at a young age while he was in college and has been exposed to a great deal of international experience while working with his brother, Matt. He followed his brother through the Olympic trails and other international events and that experience will be beneficial to our program. We have added two outstanding coaches to our staff."
Grevers is the co-creator of Northern Illinois University's club swimming program and served as captain of the team during his time in DeKalb. He swam as a prep for Lake Forest High School where he was a state finalist and team captain.
The Illinois native actually began his coaching career for the Lake Forest Club team when he was just 15-years old. His sister, Carolyn, is the head coach at Lake Forest High School, while his mother, Anja, is a well-respective swimming coach in the Chicagoland area.
