Columbia, Mo. -
The Big 12 Conference and ESPN announced its 2011 Big Monday slate this morning and the Missouri Tigers will play two Big Monday contests, first hosting Kansas State on Jan. 17, before traveling to Lawrence, Kan., for a Feb. 7 date against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The announcement means Mizzou will play multiple ESPN Big Monday games for the first time since the 2003-04 season and will meet Kansas State on Big Monday for the first time since 1992-93.
Mizzou and K-State actually open Big Monday action this year with a special 4:30 p.m. tip time on Martin Luther King Day (Jan. 17). Part of a league double-header on the network, Kansas will then travel to Baylor for an 8:30 p.m. tip that evening in Waco, Texas.
“We are excited to be making a pair of appearances on Big Monday, especially since the first Big Monday of the year will be right here at Mizzou Arena,” Head Coach Mike Anderson said. “The unique time for that game allows us to showcase Mizzou Arena and The Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball to the entire country. Our students will be back, our arena will be packed and it will be Big 12 Basketball at its best.”
Missouri then resumes its Border Showdown rivalry with Kansas a few weeks later on Feb. 7. That tip time is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse.
