Meet Alex Charlebois

The first installment of the "Meet the New Tigers" series is from Alex Charlebois, a freshman from London, Ontario:

Hey Tiger Fans!

So far my first week at Mizzou has been awesome! I have met a lot of really cool people already!

As for classes I am taking Media Communications and Learning and Motivation. We were fortunate that the entire group of incoming freshman were put in all of the same summer school classes. At the beginning of the week the upperclassmen offered to help us get around campus.

After class each day we have an hour of study hall and then either fitness or practice. My second day at Mizzou we ran the beep test to distinguish our fitness levels before summer training. Going into it we were all very nervous but it turned out to be not as bad as we had anticipated. Overall I was slightly disappointed with my result but it just made me aware that I have to push myself harder.

The first week wasn't as tough as I thought it would have been but I've been told that this upcoming week will be very demanding and strenuous. The soccer at Mizzou is very different compared to back home in Canada. I have played with the same club team for many years so I am very familiar with their style of play. I have a lot of getting used to but hopefully it will come easy with all the practice and scrimmaging we will be doing before the season. The three-four-three system they play here is by far my favorite system. I have always enjoyed pressuring and forcing the play so I am hoping that I will be successful here.

Our first lifting workout was quite the experience because, as I was squatting, Coach Mann practically made me put my butt through the floor. After lifting we had to take an ice bath, this was something I have never experienced before and I have never been so cold, even though I am Canadian!

All of the freshmen have become pretty close over the course of a week, we do a lot of fun things together. Last night we all went out to dinner, and as we were eating Molly Bear opened the ketchup bottle and it exploded and squirted all over Danielle Nottingham's white shirt! It continued to squirt out at her for about 10 seconds. Molly was in such shock that it was exploding that instead of moving the bottle away from Danielle she put her hand up to block the ketchup streaming out and the ketchup still flew through her fingers and spread even more across Danielle's white t-shirt. It was a lot funnier if you were there but it was definitely worth sharing!

Overall my first week at Mizzou has been a very positive and enlightening experience. I am confident that I made the right decision when deciding which university to attend, and I am very excited for the upcoming season!
