Mizzou's Jace Long and William Harrold won their opening match in the match play portion of the 2010 Missouri State Amateur Championship at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo.
Long defeated Jason Hobick of Fairway, Kan., 6 &5. Long won the first three holes and went 4-up after winning the seventh hole. He then won the 10th and 11th holes to go 6-up. Long will next face Jeff Woods of Springfield on Friday.
Harrold defeated Don Bliss of Chesterfield, Mo. by a score of 3&2. Harrold won the first hole of the match and was 2-up after the front nine. Bliss took the 10th holes before Harrold won the 13th and 14th holes. He will take on Brian Haskell of St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday.
Another Tiger, Brad Moody, advanced to the match play portion of the Missouri Amateur, but fell to Thomas Hay of Springfield, Mo. on Thursday, 4&3.
One hundred and sixty one players entered the field and the top 64 advanced to the match play tournament. Long was the medalist of stroke play, while Harrold tied for third place.
