COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's soccer team will host the second annual Tiger Trot 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 18 at Faurot Field. Mizzou soccer players, staff and alumni will join members from around the mid-Missouri community as they raise awareness and funds for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The event will benefit The Shelter, a provider of domestic violence and sexual assault victim services in the Boone County area since the 1970's, by donating a portion of the proceeds raised on Sunday to the not-for-profit organization.
The inaugural 5K last spring attracted an energetic crowd of entrants, including Missouri Director of Athletics Michael Alden, and raised nearly $1,000.
This year's 5K will feature t-shirts and prizes for participants, as well as water and Gatorade along the course inside Memorial Stadium.
Registration is $25 per person, or individuals may pledge a dollar amount per mile for participants. Interested individuals can contact Assistant Coach Shaunna Daugherty for more information and to sign-up for Sunday's event.
Sunday's Tiger Trot will cap off a busy weekend for the Missouri program. The Tigers play their final game of the spring season against Indiana at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Walton Stadium and will also host an alumni kickball game following the 5K on Sunday.
Admission to Saturday's game is free of charge and open to the public.
