More Records Fall On Day Two

March 27, 2010

COLUMBUS, Ohio. - After a strong first day that had the Missouri men's swimming and diving contingent scoring points early in Columbus for the national championships, the Tigers put forth another strong effort that shattered two more school records by Jan Konarzewski and Greg DeStephen.

Konarzewski obliterated the school mark he set at the Big 12 Championships last month in the 100 back, while DeStephen set his second school record this meet, this time in the 3-meter springboard.

Missouri sits in 26th place overall with 16 points heading into tomorrow's final day of competition, with the opportunity to score more points in two more events on Sunday.

Konarzewski shaved .59 seconds off his personal best time in the 100 back, finishing 17th in the preliminaries in 47.05 seconds. The sophomore was .03 seconds from making the cut for the "B" final group and was the first alternate if one of the other swimmers were unable to compete later in the night.

DeStephen claimed all three diving school records after his All-American performance on Friday night at the McCorkle Aquatic Center, turning around on Saturday and setting a new school mark on the 3-meter springboard with an 11th place finish in the event. The senior made the finals after scoring 384.15 in the preliminaries placing him 13th overall, then scored a new personal best in the finals scoring 433.65 points.

Dante Jones also competed in the 3-meter diving competition, scoring 295.60 points to finish 27th in the event.

Missouri will wrap up the championships, and the 2009-10 season, tomorrow competing in the 200 back and platform diving competitions.
