Sarah Shire's Gymnastics Journal

Feb. 3, 2010

Hey Tiger Fans!

I can't believe it's already February! Classes are now back in full swing and we're already in our fifth week of competition season!

This past week in the gym we continued to focus on details. Our assignments were a little more challenging as expectations continue to rise. By the end of the week, we were very excited to take our first bus trip to Lincoln, Neb. The trip was so much fun! Most of us gathered in the back of the bus to watch TV and movies. When we arrived around 7pm we had intended to watch the wrestlers take on the Cornhuskers, but with the last minute schedule change due to the weather, we decided to eat dinner quickly and get to bed as soon as possible. For most of us, the bright and early wake-up call was one we hadn't experienced often, but we all handled the changes well and began competing at 11:30 a.m.

Scoring was tough on the first rotation but after a great vault rotation we were tied with Nebraska. Things didn't exactly go our way on floor and beam, but I was so proud of my team for never giving up. This weekend was a learning experience for us all, and a great opportunity for us to see the facility the Big 12 Championships will be held in. Saturday was also Brooke's 22nd birthday, so after a good meal with a few of our family members, we made the long trip back to Columbia.

We were anxious to get back to work this week to prepare for Beauty and the Beast against the University of New Hampshire. Beauty and the Beast is always an exciting competition and we're all looking forward to it! Come support us at the Hearnes Center Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.!!!
