COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Although most of the events in the women's portion of the 2010 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships begins in earnest tomorrow, it didn't stop the Tiger women from setting a new school record in the 200 medley relay on day one.
The Tiger women sit in a tie for third place overall with 62 points along with Kansas, trailing co-leaders Texas and Texas A&M heading into tomorrow's action.
The women's relay group of Cassie Cunningham, Rachel Ripley, Kim Jasmer and Lisa Nathanson began the meet by breaking the school record in the 200 medley relay event, clocking in at 1 minute, 39.87 seconds, beating the old mark by 30 seconds in the fourth place finish. The mark is an NCAA "B" cut qualifying time and beats the season best time by a close to three seconds.
Later on in the night, the team of Kim Jasmer, Colleen Gordon, Stephanie Rovig and Francie Szostak finished third in the 800 free relay, touching the pad in 7:11.59, earning another "B" cut time and places the group second all-time in school history. The time is nearly ten seconds better than their season best time from earlier this year.
Mizzou will begin Thursday's action at 10 a.m. with the preliminaries of the 200 free event.
