COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Junior diver, and Columbia native, Dante Jones became the first individual Tiger to medal at the 2010 Big 12 Swimming and Diving championships, earning bronze after the completion of day one.
The Tigers currently sit in third place with 107 points, only three points behind Texas A&M for second place.
Jones came in third with 337.55 points, while senior Greg DeStephen finished fourth with 326 points. The 337.55 is just two points shy of his season best this year, a mark he set at the Shamrock Invitational.
The men closed out the day's events with another third place showing in the 800 free relay, as the team of Jeff Hendricks, Cameron Sellers, Yaniv Shnaider and Ryan Sellers finished in 6:33.79, giving the group the second fastest time in Missouri history. It out shadows the previous best time this year by close to eight seconds set at the Tiger Invitational.
The 1:37.29 Hendricks swam on the opening leg of the 800 meter race also set a school record in the 200 free, as the first leg of the relay can count towards school records. It's almost a half second better than the old mark set by Cameron Sellers.
The group of Jan Konarzewski, Michael Lopresti, Anders Melin and Jordan Hawley set a new Mizzou school record in the 200 medley relay, finishing in third place in 1 minute, 27.28 seconds, hitting the NCAA's "B" cut line and beating the previous season best by close to three seconds.
Mizzou will begin day two of the championships on Thursday with the 200 freestyle beginning at 10 a.m.
