SOUTH BEND, Ind. - After the first session of the Notre Dame Shamrock Invitational, the Tiger men are ahead of two schools and tied with the other heading into tomorrow's final events led by three first place finishes by Greg DeStephen, Jordan Hawley and the 400 medley relay squad.

In this championship style format, the points earned during a race will go towards a team's final score against the other schools in the meet, with the Tigers leading Notre Dame and Denver with 74 and 69 points, respectively, and tied with Iowa with 54.50 points each.

Hawley arguably had one of the more exciting races on the men's side on Friday, finishing the 50 free in 20.54 seconds, tied with Iowa's Duncan Partridge for first place.

DeStephen earned his individual title for the Tiger men on Friday winning the 3-meter dive competition with 378.70 points. Dante Jones finished fourth with 349.40 points in the event.

The 400 medley relay team of Jan Konarzewski, Michael Lopresti, Anders Melin and Hawley swam 3:19.43 to take first place, a full second ahead of Iowa's "A" group of swimmers.

Yaniv Shnaider took second in the 200 IM, touching the pad in 1:52.09, with Konarzewski finishing fifth in 1:54.27.
