Hey Tiger Fans!
The season keeps on moving with our first conference competition against Iowa State. Coming back from Las Vegas with a big win we were anxious to get back out there and take a win in front of our own fans! Not only was it our first conference meet but also our annual Pink Out, in support of breast cancer.
We started the night on vault, and were able to count five huge scores. Everyone improved which was exciting to see. Becky Scholle did a wonderful job starting off the team. It is really important to have a strong lead off to set the pace and the momentum for that event, so the team can build off of it to improve the scores as the lineup continues on.
Next were the bars. In practice we have really been working on hitting our handstands and stuck landings and on Friday it showed. We as a team went aggressive with our handstands and keeping up the momentum from routine to routine. We are a strong and consistent bar team and all the work is paying off.
Our third event was beam. Mary Burke started off the rotation with a solid routine and set the pace. We had a few bobbles in the middle but we did a good job of focusing on the task at hand and what had to be done. Sarah Shire ended the rotation with a solid performance and receiving a 9.90.
Last but not least was floor. As we learned in Las Vegas the meet is not over until the last routine, and it is so true. Tori Howard started off the night with a 9.825 and a solid performance. The momentum from Tori's routine carried on through out the event. With the help of the crowd we really got into our routines, playing to the crowd and just having fun. Mary Burke did outstanding and really kept the pace right on track. Sarah Shire ended the night with another solid performance and a real crowd pleaser.
At the end of the night we had our highest score of the season 196.4, and beat Iowa State who went 196. I hope all of our fans enjoyed the meet. This weekend we will be going on our first bus trip of the season to Nebraska! Our next home meet is Beauty and the Beast on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m., where we compete side by side with the University of Missouri wrestlers. Don't miss it!
GO TIGERS!
