COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Hours before knocking off Texas A&M in a five-set thriller last Saturday, the Mizzou volleyball team took time to give a little something back as it visited the MU Children's Hospital and mingled with children and their families. The Tigers took a tour of the hospital and met with children from the community in hopes of providing a silver lining to these children and their families.
"It was a really good opportunity for us to go out and meet some kids and give them a chance to interact with us as student-athletes," sophomore defensive specialist Priscilla Armendariz said. "It was just really nice to see all of the smiles on their faces once we were done."
Community service is about more than just giving back to a community that has given so much; it is about educating all of those involved, and the Tigers were no exception on Saturday. The team learned about the purpose of the MU Children's Hospital and why a place like the MU Children's Hospital is so important for children who have special needs that cannot be met at a regular facility. It was a truly unique learning experience for the Tiger volleyball program.
"To me, the whole experience was very entertaining and very rewarding" sophomore middle blocker Brittney Brimmage said. "I love being around children and I love being able to help them out in any way I can, and I think we did that on Saturday."
Members of the team got the chance to play and interact with children and meet their families. The Tigers distributed signed volleyballs and provided a great number of smiles during their visit. The Tigers provided children with inspiration and a break from their daily routines as it was a special treat for the children and their families.
The Tiger volleyball team returns to action tomorrow (Sept. 30) as they square off against No. 19 Baylor. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to www.MUTigers.com.
