Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team opened its fall schedule at home on University Field with a 12-0 shutout over North Central Community College. Tiger pitchers sophomore Kristin Nottelmann (Fenton, Mo.) and senior Jana Hainey (Peculiar, Mo.) combined for the seven inning no-hitter. Nottelmann made the start and earned the win for Missouri, throwing five innings and striking out 11 batters, while Hainey entered the sixth in relief, facing seven batters and striking out three.
Missouri's newcomers scored five of MU's 12 runs and were credited with seven of the Tigers' 10 RBI. Third baseman Nicole Hudson (Webb City, Mo.) and junior transfer Catherine Lee (Covington, Mo.) each hit two home runs, Hudson managing a leadoff shot in the bottom of the fifth and a two run knock over the left field wall in the sixth inning. Lee, batting fifth and playing catcher hit back-to-back blasts, solo runs, in the fifth and sixth frame.
Freshman shortstop Jenna Martson opened the game with a leadoff single to left field, stealing second and eventually scoring on Hudson's double to right field. Martson stole two bags in the game, Missouri's only stolen bases of the game.
The Tigers hung four runs in the fifth inning and five in sixth, with nine of the Tigers' 12 runs coming across earned. As a team, Missouri notched 15 hits. Five Tigers recorded a multi-hit game including junior Lisa Simmons (Boonville, Mo,) who had a perfect 4-for-4 showing with all four hits marked as doubles. Simmons scored two runs for the Tigers and was credited with two RBI.
