VERONA, N.Y.--The Mizzou men's golf picked up its first team championship since 2005 and MU freshman Stuart Ballingall took medalist honors in his first collegiate tournament at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, which concluded Monday in Verona, N.Y.
The Tigers recorded a final round 288 on Monday morning and finished with a three-round score of 885, finishing 12 shots ahead of second-place Richmond. It was the first tournament title for Missouri since the 2005 Missouri Intercollegiate.
Ballingall carded a one-under-par 71 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 215 (69-75-71), picking up top individual honors. He finished one shot ahead of the 36-hole leader Michael Coriasso of Oakland. Ballingall is the first medalist for Mizzou since John Kelly and Tyler Dunn took co-medalist honors at the 2005 Missouri Intercollegiate.
Joining Ballingall in the top five was redshirt freshman Jace Long, who finished in a tie for fourth place. Long turned in a round of 72 on Monday, finishing with a three-round total of 219.
Sophomore Chris Johnson picked up a top-10 and was just outside the top five, placing sixth with a 222 total after a third round 73.
Junior William Harrold carded an even-par round of 72 on Monday and finished in a tie for 31st place with a 237 total. Sophomore Adam Rosenthal tied for 38th spot with a 241 score.
Up next for the Tigers is the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Indianapolis, Ind. Sept. 12-13.
