Soccer Lands 15 on Big 12 Honor Roll

July 24, 2009

Columbia, Mo - The University of Missouri women's soccer team had 15 players named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the spring semester, announced as part of the conference's biannual academic recognition.

Student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 grade-point average (GPA) or better to receive the individual honor. Collectively, the Tigers finished with an impressive 3.17 team GPA for the spring.

"The girls do a great job in the classroom which is evident in both their team GPA and the academic recognition they consistently receive," Total Person Program academic coordinator Jaysen Spencer said.

Leading the way were seniors Janelle Cordia and Mallory Forst and junior Bree Thornton with perfect 4.0 GPAs for the term.

The team also had three players receive diplomas at the completion of the spring semester. Ashley Hamblin earned a psychology degree and is now pursuing a master's degree at Columbia College. Mo Redmond completed a general studies degree and is enrolled in the accelerated nursing program at Mizzou. Additionally, former player Laura Buehrig graduated from the College of Engineering and is working for Exxon Mobil in Houston, Texas.
