Coleman, Mach Selected on Day Two of MLB Draft

June 10, 2009

Mizzou's Trevor Coleman and Kyle Mach added their names to the list of drafted Tigers as both were selected on day two of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft. Coleman was taken by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round with the 263rd overall pick, while Mach went to the San Francisco Giants in the 27th round with the 807th pick of the draft.

Coleman hit six home runs and had 32 RBI as a junior for the Tigers in 2009. He missed 13 games in May after injuring his hand, but returned in time for the NCAA Regional. In his three years at MU, Coleman has 19 home runs with 109 RBI and a career batting average of .280.

This is the second time Coleman has been drafted, as he was picked out of high school by the Cincinnati Reds in the 28th round of the 2006 draft. Coleman was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection this season, after earning All-Big 12 Second Team in 2008. He was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American in 2007.

One of the best defensive third baseman in the Big 12 during his career at Missouri, Mach added to his resume with an impressive offensive season in 2009. He turned in a career-best .335 average to lead the team and raise his career average to .294. Mach also had a career fielding percentage of .963.

Mach was a two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, earning the recognition as a sophomore in 2007 and as a senior this past spring.

Coleman and Mach joined Aaron Crow and Kyle Gibson as Tigers who have had their names called in this year's draft. On Tuesday, Crow and Gibson were each drafted in the first round, as Crow was taken by the Kansas City Royals with the 12th overall pick and Gibson went to the Minnesota Twins with the 22nd pick.

The draft will conclude on Thursday with the 31st through 50th rounds.
