COLUMBIA, Mo - The University of Missouri women's soccer team landed an addition to its 2009 incoming class on Friday with the transfer of decorated LSU midfielder Michelle Makasini. The Euless, Texas, native played three seasons for the LSU Tigers, compiling 27 goals and 14 assists in 63 appearances.
"We look forward to welcoming Michelle to our Mizzou Soccer Family," Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. "We believe she will offer us a unique set of skills in our quest for a national championship."
Makasini makes the move to the Big 12 Conference following three successful years in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Following a 29-point freshman campaign that produced SEC All-Freshman Team and Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie first team honors, Makasini tallied 21 points as a sophomore and was named to the All-SEC and NSCAA/adidas All-Central Region first teams. She ranks third all-time in both career goals (27) scored and career points (68), as well as first in shots and shots on goal.
"I am so excited about playing at Mizzou," Makasini said. "Mizzou ranks up there with the best of the best in women's college soccer. I look forward to playing with such great players and a great coaching staff."
Makasini will join an impressive incoming class that includes nine freshmen from across the country to help the Tigers defend their Big 12 Championship this fall.
