COLUMBIA, Mo. - Day one of the 2009 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships went down in impressive fashion for the Tigers, as new school records were set in all five events. The day consisted of two relays and the men's 1-meter diving.

For the women, Texas leads all teams with 80 points, followed by Texas A&M at 68. Missouri and Kansas sit in a tie for third with 62 points each, while Nebraska and Iowa State are tied for fifth with 54 points.

The men closed out the day in third place with 105 points. Texas A&M is currently in first with 113 points, with Texas just behind them at 112 points.

The 200 yard medley and 800 yard freestyle were the two swimming events completed on the evening, and the Tiger men and women each set new school records in both events.

The men's team of freshman Jan Konarzewski, junior Martin Cernansky, senior Gilad Kaufman and sophomore Jordan Hawley took third place in the 200 medley while finishing in 1:27.71, good for an NCAA “B” cut provisional time, while breaking the old school record of 1:30.06, set back in 1995.

Later, the men's 800 free relay team shattered the school record in the event, while also taking second place. Sophomore Cameron Sellers, sophomore Jeff Hendricks, senior Matt Dahlke and senior Jake Hoffmann teamed up to finish with a time of 6:31.90, also an NCAA “B” cut time. The team's finish beat out the old school record by almost five seconds.

Junior All-American diver Greg DeStephen also set the new school record for the men's 1-meter springboard as he registered a fifth-place finish in the event. DeStephen finished with a score of 363.65, breaking the old school record 355.95 and beating out his old personal best by over 22 points. Sophomore Dante Jones came in sixth place for Missouri with 327.30 points, while senior Jeff Wolfert helped out the Tigers with his score of 272.85, good for seventh.
