Columbia, Mo. – The University of Missouri has filled the final hole in its 2009 non-conference schedule, and the Tigers will play host to Furman University of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) on Sept. 19th at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field. Game time will be determined at a later date.
Mizzou will be the first of two Bowl Championship Subdivision (BCS) schools which Furman will play in 2009, with Auburn being the other.
The Paladins are among the top FCS programs in the country, as they have advanced to the FCS playoffs seven times in the last 10 seasons. They have gone a combined 86-38 over that stretch, and are coming off a 7-5 season in 2008 that included a solid showing in a 24-7 loss at Virginia Tech last September.
“We're very pleased to get the final piece of our schedule puzzle put in place,” said Associate Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt. “It takes quite a bit of maneuvering to fill a game this late in the process, but we feel good with this arrangement. Furman is no stranger to playing BCS schools, as they've played Virginia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina and Pittsburgh in recent years, and they have Florida and South Carolina on their schedule in the future,” he said.
Missouri's 2009 season gets underway Sept. 5th with the Arch Rivalry game in St. Louis against Illinois, and the home opener is set for Sept. 12th against Bowling Green. After Furman comes to Columbia on Sept. 19th, the Tigers will wrap up non-conference play on Sept. 26th at Nevada.
