Jan. 17, 2009

Lawrence, Kan. -

The Mizzou men's and women's track and field squads went to enemy territory Friday evening and came away with a sweep of rival Kansas in what was tabbed as the "Border Dual" in Lawrence, Kan.  The Tigers and Jayhawks held their first dual since 1976 (first-ever for the women), with the men claiming a 101-80 win, while the women took a 94-86 victory.  The combined scores put the Tigers on top as well, 195-166, and with the win, Missouri increased its series lead over KU to 35-17.

The 23rd-ranked Tiger men won 11-of-17 events on the day, with nine different Tigers claiming victories, to go with a pair of team relay wins.  Reigning Big 12 Male Athlete of the Week Chris Rohr claimed the men's weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 20.75 meters (68-01.00 feet).  Chris Davis led a 1-2 Tiger finish in the 600-yard run, winning in a personal-best time of 1:11.23, with teammate Tyrell Everett finishing second in 1:12.45 - also a personal best.

Aaron Dixon claimed the men's 800-meters with a personal-best time of 1:54.71, while Lars Rise won the long jump with a mark of 7.22 meters (23-08.25 feet), a personal best that was more than a foot beyond his previous career best.  Rise won the event on his final jump, edging past a pair of Jayhawk competitors, who were in the lead prior to his last jump, at 7.18 meters.
