The Mizzou women's swimming and diving squad looks to bounce back after last weekend's disappointing finish as they travel to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers, in a co-ed tri-meet.
The meet is scheduled to start at Noon CT on Saturday, January 17, at Indiana's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center.
Scouting Indiana
The Hoosier women come into the tri-meet with No. 13 national ranking and a 3-1 dual meet record on the season. The team took second at the Indiana Quad last weekend which featured three other top-25 teams - Tennessee, Michigan and Northwestern.
Indiana is lead by junior Kate Zubkova in the pool. The Ukrainian backstroke has four wins in the 100 and 200 back, while also collecting two victories in the 100 fly and one in the 200 IM. Indiana's diving team is lead by senior Christina Loukas, the conference record-holder with nine all-time Big Ten Diver of the Week awards. Loukas competed for Team USA at the Beijing Olympics this past summer.
Scouting the Buckeyes
Ohio State's women enter this weekend with an undefeated 4-0 dual meet record. The team was last in action on January 9, when they defeated Wright State by a score of 177-109. The meet with Indiana will be their first conference dual of the season.
Leading the Buckeyes into the pool is sophomore Samantha Cheverton, who took gold in the 50 free and 400 IM against Wright State and has recorded two NCAA "B" cut times this year, one in the 200 back and one in the 500 free. Ohio State also has an impressive diving squad, lead by sophomore Kristen Asman. Asman was awarded All-America honors last season with her fourth-place finish on the platform.
Reunited
The Missouri Tiger team will reunite with a familiar face this weekend in Bloomington. Former Tiger assistant coach Stefanie Williams is currently an assistant with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Williams is in her first year with the Buckeyes after spending the last three with Mizzou.
What's Next
Following this weekend's tri-meet, the Mizzou women will return home for Senior Day as the squad hosts Iowa State in the last home dual of the year. Following that, the Tigers will head to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes on January 31, and will close out the dual season with a Big 12 battle against Nebraska on February 7.
