COLUMBIA, Mo. - Sophomore Kari Adam tallied her first goal of the year to propel the No. 22 University of Missouri soccer team to a 1-0 win over Auburn Friday night at Walton Stadium. The victory improves Mizzou's record to 1-1-0 in 2008 while Auburn drops to 2-1-0.

"That game was what we needed after a tough loss to Illinois," Missouri Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. "We needed to see how tough we were and did playing a team like Auburn, who gave us all we could handle.

The game remained scoreless until the 72nd minute when the Tigers earned a corner after a shot from Adam. Senior Mo Redmond sailed the corner to the far post, where junior Meghan Pfeiffer headed the ball toward goal. Adam corralled the shot and managed to sneak a low shot past Auburn goalie Allison Whitworth and into the net for a 1-0 Tiger lead.

Mizzou nearly got on the board in the 15th minute after sophomore Alysha Bonnick crossed a ball from the endline across the box. Junior Kristin Andrighetto ran onto the ball and one-timed a shot from 14-yards out but Whitworth made the save.

In the 43rd minute, senior Kat Tarr sent a pass from just past midfield and into the box to freshman Mallory Stipetich. Stipetich dived to the ball and got off a six-yard shot that ended up in the hands of Whitworth.

Auburn narrowly missed on its best scoring opportunity of the game in the 48th minute of play after a Monica Afanador shot from outside the box sailed just over the crossbar.

The Tigers posted a 23-11 shot advantage during the game.

Missouri travels to Berkeley, Calif., next weekend to face No. 17 California at 11 a.m. PT (1 p.m. CT) on Saturday, Sept. 6 before a 10 a.m. PT (12 p.m. CT) contest with Eastern Washington on Sunday, Sept. 7. The Tigers then return to Walton Stadium for games against Vanderbilt and Butler on Friday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 14, respectively.
