Missouri Drops Finale with Texas

COLUMBIA, Mo. - - No. 8 Mizzou dropped its series finale with No. 12 Texas, 9-2 on Sunday at Taylor Stadium. After outscoring the Longhorns 44-14 in the first two games of the series, the Tigers managed just two runs on four hits in the final game of the weekend.
Missouri falls to 25-9 on the season and 7-5 in the Big 12 Conference, while UT moves to 23-12 overall and 8-7 in league play.
Texas rightfielder Kyle Russell hit his first of two home runs on Sunday in the top of the first inning. His three-run shot gave UT the early 3-0 lead. That lead was extended to five when the Longhorns scored twice in the second inning, getting three-consecutive doubles.
The Longhorns added a run in the third inning and Russell hit his second homer of the day in the top of the fifth, a solo shot over the wall in rightfield.
Mizzou senior Kurt Calvert scored the Tigers' first run of the game, crossing the plate on a single by junior Kyle Mach in the bottom of the fifth inning. Calvert drove in the second run on the day for MU with a single in the sixth.
Texas starter Chance Ruffin did not allow a baserunner through the first three innings and picked the win after allowing just two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Cole Green earned the save by retiring the final 11 Mizzou batters of the game.
Missouri will be back in action on Wednesday as William Woods visits Taylor Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
