
Women's Basketball Suffers 73-67 Loss to Nebraska

With the loss, Missouri falls to 8-13 overall and 1-7 in Big 12 Conference action while Nebraska goes to 16-6 overall and 5-3 in league play.
With Mizzou up 10, 61-51, with 5:34 remaining in the contest, the Huskers ran off a 13-2 run to take a 64-63 lead when Kelsey Griffin hit a layup to give Nebraska its first lead of the game with 2:32 on the clock. A layup from freshman Shakara Jones momentarily gave Mizzou the lead but the Huskers answered with another quick layup from Griffin to give Nebraska the lead for good with 1:55 left in the game.
Junior Alyssa Hollins led Mizzou with 20 points and a career high eight rebounds. Sophomore Jessra Johnson added 17 and Jones had 12. Freshman Jasmyn Otote scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds in her first career start.
Mizzou came out strong in the first half and built an early 10-3 advantage when Jones hit a jumper with 14:21 remaining in the half. Nebraska scored the next six points to pull within one, 10-9, at the 12:21 mark but the Tigers eventually began to pull away. Johnson converted a layup with 15 seconds on the clock to send Mizzou into the half on top 31-23.
Nebraska scored the first four points of the second half to cut its halftime deficit in half at the 18:43 mark and bring the score to 31-27. The Tigers responded with an 8-2 run, capped when junior Alyssa Hollins grabbed a steal and found freshman Jasmyn Otote for a layup to give Mizzou a double-digit lead, 39-29 with 16:13 left.
After Nebraska cut Mizzou's lead to eight points, Hollins responded with consecutive 3-pointers with 8:31 left in the contest to give the Tigers a 57-43 advantage. Missouri kept the Huskers at bay for the next three minutes but could not respond to Nebraska's play over the final 5:34 of the game.
The Tigers close out its two-game homestand with a 6:30 p.m. contest with the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday, Feb. 6 in a game that will be broadcast locally on the Mizzou Sports Network. Mizzou then travels to Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, Feb. 9 to face the Iowa State Cyclones at 7:30 p.m.
