Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri women's tennis player Chrissy Svetlic (Kansas City, Mo.) has been has been awarded this year's Brock Olivo Award. Each year, the Tiger Club of Kansas City selects one male and one female Mizzou student-athlete from the Kansas City area to receive the award, which essentially represents hard work.
Chrissy is a senior and on track to graduate this spring with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics/Fitness and Nutrition. An outstanding doubles player, she has played No. 1 doubles for Mizzou the past three years. She and her partner are currently ranked No. 43 in the nation, and Chrissy is 15th on the all-time doubles wins list at Mizzou. In her time at Mizzou, she has a top 30 and a top 10 doubles win under her belt with two different partners.
"We're very proud of Chrissy," said Head Coach Blake Starkey. "Chrissy is out of the Mike Wolf Tennis Academy in Kansas City, an area we obviously recruit, and this just adds to her resume. The Kansas City Mizzou alums are great, and it will be great for her and her parents to have an evening like this. Chrissy has developed so much in her time here, and with the award being based on hard work, it is appropriate she receive it."
The male recipient was Kansas City's Tony Temple of Mizzou's football team. Temple, who ended his career with a record-setting 281-yard, four-touchdown performance in leading Mizzou to a 38-7 dismantling of 25th-ranked Arkansas in the 2008 Cotton Bowl, rushed for 1,039 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games this season. After a 1,063-yard campaign in 2006, Temple became the first Tiger running back to ever post multiple 1,000-yard seasons. Temple ends his career with 2,552 rushing yards, which ranks him sixth all-time at Mizzou. Temple is currently preparing for the 2008 NFL Draft.
The award presentation will be held February 13th in Kansas City, Mo., at the Sheraton by the Truman Sports Complex.
