Mizzou Basketball Game Notes

Mizzou vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Dec. 2, 2008

Missouri improved to 6-1 on the season and extended its school-record non-conference home court winning streak to 31 games.

Missouri improved to 23-0 all-time vs. members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and 2-0 all-time vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Missouri is 2-0 this season vs. the league with a season-opening win over Prairie View A&M.

With its 54-point victory, the Tigers have now won 5-of-6 games by double figure margins. Missouri's lone single-figure win came on Sunday vs. Oral Roberts. The Tigers won that game by nine, 92-83. Missouri has an impressive 21.0 ppg scoring margin on the season as well.

The 54-point win was also the largest margin of victory in the Mike Anderson Era and the largest margin of victory in Mizzou Arena history.

Missouri's 54-point margin of victory should come as no surprise, especially in non-conference play. The Tigers have averaged a 22.5 ppg margin of victory in non-league games during Mike Anderson's tenure.

Missouri eclipsed the 80-point plateau for the sixth time this season. Missouri is a perfect 6-0 when scoring at least 80 points in 2008-09. The Tigers also topped 80 points in a game for the 30th time in the Mike Anderson era. To put that scoring accomplishment in perspective, Missouri scored 80 points or more just 22 times in the four seasons before Mike Anderson's arrival, a span of 124 games.

DeMarre Carroll finished the game with 13 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for his career. Carroll scored 460 points at Vanderbilt and now has 547 career points in 39 games as a Tiger.

Missouri ranks among the nation's leaders in turnovers forced and came into tonight's contest forcing 18.8 turnovers a game on the year. Missouri actually forced its season average in the opening period alone tonight. The Tigers forced 18 first-half miscues and finished the game with a season high 28 turnovers forced.

In fact Missouri forced 13 Pine Bluff turnovers in the game's first 7:07. During that spurt the Tigers forced UAPB to use a pair of timeouts, including the team's lone “full” stoppage of play. Missouri finished the first half by forcing a season high three first-half timeouts, with the final timeout being called with :28 seconds to play.

Missouri didn't commit its first turnover until the 8:51 mark of the first half and had a 13-to-1 differential at the point. Missouri had just 10 turnovers on the evening, including just four in the final 20 minutes of play. Missouri entered the game No. 7 nationally with just 11.0 turnovers per game and now is averaging 10.9 per night.

Mizzou enjoyed a higher than normal points off turnover ratio this evening. The Tigers typically score 30 percent of their points off turnovers, but tonight's point off turnovers ratio accounted for 39 percent of the Tigers' tallies. Missouri scored 37-of-95 points off turnovers.

J.T. Tiller took his third charge of the season early in the second half. Tiller leads all Tigers in that category.

Zaire Taylor tied a season high with six assists. Taylor had just one turnover to go with his six dimes on the night and now has a 29-to-7 assist/turnover ratio on the year.

Freshman Kim English scored a career high 13 points. His previous career high was nine vs. Chattanooga. English became the third Tiger freshman to reach double-figures this season, joining Marcus Denmon and Miguel Paul who did it in the season-opener.
