Columbia, Mo. - Senior midfielder Mo Redmond was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite National Team of thwe Week and the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Redmond scored two goals in a 55-second span of the second half to complement her game-winning assist in the Tigers' 6-0 win over Kansas on Friday.
Redmond, a team captain and preseason All-Big 12 selection, helped start the scoring onslaught in the ninth minute of the Border Showdown matchup with a headed pass to setup sophomore striker Alysha Bonnick's goal. It was her third assist of the season and 12th of her career. After tallying five game-winning assists in 2007, a single season school record, the assist moved Redmond into a tie for third place on the Missouri career game-winning assists chart with seven.
The Brownsburg, Ind., native then opened the second half scoring on a first-time shot from the top of the penalty area in the 47th minute to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Redmond struck again as she headed in a corner kick from junior forward Kristin Andrighetto for her third goal on the year and 11th of her career.
The five-point performance, a career high, came on senior night as Missouri honored Redmond and her five fellow senior teammates for their four years of contributions. It is the second Big 12 player of the week honor of Redmond's career, after earning Newcomer of the Week in 2005 as a freshman, and fourth for a Missouri player this season.
Redmond will lead the third-seeded Tigers into Big 12 Tournament play this Wednesday against No. 9 Texas at 1:30 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
