Soccer Chosen for National TV Broadcasts

Oct. 8, 2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 16 University of Missouri women's soccer team has been selected to have two upcoming games nationally televised on ESPNU.

Mizzou's match at No. 7 Texas A&M on Oct. 19 will air live at 1:30 pm CT from College Station, Texas. One week later, the Tigers host No. 10 Texas at 1 pm CT with the game televised on a tape delay at 4:30 pm CT.

"It's an honor to be chosen twice for ESPNU's coverage," Missouri head coach Bryan Blitz said. "It's great for our fanbase to be able to watch the team play two excellent opponents on television and it's a great opportunity to showcase the program."

The games will feature three of the top teams in the Big 12 last year, with both contests rematches of dramatic games a season ago. In their 2007 conference opener, Missouri upset No. 4 Texas A&M 3-2 in double overtime on a goal from Kristin Andrighetto with 32 seconds remaining in front of 1,545 fans at Walton Stadium. Nearly a month later on the road at No. 7 Texas, the Tigers scored twice in the opening 10 minutes before the Longhorns fought back for a 3-2 overtime win.

The Big 12 Conference matches are two of only four scheduled regular season ESPNU broadcasts and Missouri is the only team to be featured twice by the channel this season.

Veteran play-by-play announcer Beth Mowins will be paired with US Women's National Team defender Cat Whitehill in the broadcast booth for the both contests.

The ESPN network will also air the NCAA Tournament selection show live on Nov. 10, as well as the College Cup semifinals on Dec. 5 and the College Cup championship on Dec. 7.
