Mizzou Basketball Hosts Black & Gold Game Oct. 29

Oct. 3, 2008

Columbia, Mo. - With the start of the college basketball season just two weeks away, Mizzou Basketball announced on Friday that it will host its annual Black & Gold Game on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. inside Mizzou Arena.

Doors to the event open at 6 p.m. and in addition to a full-scale scrimmage by the 2008-09 Tigers, members of the team will be signing pre-game autographs on the concourse of the Mizzou Arena. Team posters and schedule cards will be available for fans.

Missouri Basketball is partnering with the Central Missouri Food Bank for this year's Black & Gold Game and encourages fans to donate two canned food items per person to gain entry to the event.

The Oct. 29 Black & Gold Game will be the only formal preseason opportunity for Tiger fans to catch a glimpse of their 2008-09 squad. Missouri will not have an open practice on Oct. 17 (first official day of practice) and exhibition play for the Tigers gets underway on Nov. 6 vs. Lincoln University at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers conclude preseason action on Nov. 11 against Missouri Southern, before opening regular-season play Nov. 15 against Prairie View A&M.

Head Coach Mike Anderson enters his third season at the helm of the Missouri program and returns four starters from the final 12 games of the 2007-08 season, including league award winners DeMarre Carroll (Big 12 Newcomers of the year) and Leo Lyons (All-Improved Team). Anderson also adds one of the nation's largest recruiting hauls of seven newcomers. Entering the program this season is University of Delaware transfer Zaire Taylor, junior college All-American Keith Ramsey and high school standouts Laurence Bowers, Marcus Denmon, Kim English, Steve Moore and Miguel Paul.
