Mizzou Athletics Raises $1600 For Komen Day

Oct. 24, 2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes and one woman dies from breast cancer every thirteen minutes. In Missouri alone, approximately 3,900 women will die of breast cancer annually.

The MU Athletics Department recognizes that breast cancer has touched the lives of many of our supporters, staff and student-athletes. In the midst of Homecoming preparation and festivities on the University of Missouri campus, staff members took time out to participate in the Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for the Cure day raising $1600. This month-long initiative culminated with a "Wii Are Passionately Pink" Bowling Tournament and Home Run Derby where participants donated $5 per play. Winning the bowling tournament was Courtney Gilmore and Jason Ray won the home run derby. Both Gilmore and Ray work in the Tiger Scholarship Fund.

It is our hope that by helping fund life-saving research, education, screening and treatment efforts, we will one day eradicate breast cancer.
