Tiger Baseball Supports SCIS in Chicago Marathon

Oct. 15, 2008

This past weekend, over 33,000 people participated in the Chicago Marathon. Included among the participants was Geoff Kent. Kent is paralyzed after a skiing accident last year. He competed in the wheelchair race of the Chicago Marathon to raise awareness for Spinal Cord Injuries and finished 18th.

Kent has started a non-profit organization to raise money for spinal cord injury cure research called Spinal Cord Injuries Suck, NFP (SCIS). The Chicago Marathon was the organization's first fund raising effort and Kent recruited six runners to help advance SCIS's cause.

The Mizzou baseball coaching staff, players and Tiger Crew members contributed a sizeable donation to SCIS in hopes of helping the newly developed charity.

According to Kent, scientist are close in the research for a cure, they just need money. To learn more or to donate, click here to visit the SCIS webiste.
