Missouri-UMKC Game Notes
Jan. 8, 2008
With the score even at 35 after the first half of play, Missouri used an early 25-6 run to distance themselves from the `Roos after intermission. The Tigers started the second half 10-of-10 from the field and cruised to a 96-76 win.
Missouri's 61 second half points were the most for the Tigers in any half this season.
Missouri's two junior big men, DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons, combined for 38 points on 14-of-20 shooting. Lyons made a career-high 10 field goals (on 12 attempts) en route to his 22 points.
Missouri finished the home, non-conference portion of its regular season with a perfect 9-0 record. Playing at Mizzou Arena, the Tigers beat non-conference opponents by an average of 27.6 points.
Under the direction of Mike Anderson, the Tigers are now 20-0 in non-conference home action. Dating back to 2005-2006, Missouri has won 27 straight non-conference home games, tying the school-record set by Norm Stewart's 1987-1990 squads. Missouri's last non-conference loss came in the 2005-06 season-opener against Sam Houston State.
Despite the close proximity of Columbia and Kansas City, tonight marked just the second meeting between the Tigers and Kangaroos. The only other meeting occurred on Nov. 29, 2005, when Missouri won 60-42 at Mizzou Arena.
Missouri shot just below its season-best--53.0 percent recorded against Western Illinois on Nov. 25. Tonight, the Tigers converted 33-of-63 field goals, good for 52.4 percent.
On the defensive end, Mizzou tallied 15 steals tying a season-high.
Missouri outscored UMKC 44-16 in the paint and 19-0 in fast break points.
Senior guard Stefhon Hannah recorded the first double-double of his season, scoring 13 points to go with his season-high 11 assists.
Senior guard Jason Horton recorded a season-high 11 points.
Five Tigers reached double figures--Lyons (22), Carroll (16), Hannah (13), Horton (11) and sophomore guard Keon Lawrence (11).
UMKC's 35 three-point attempts were the most for any Tiger opponent this season.
Missouri is now 144-56 all-time against opponents from the Show-Me State.
