Tigers Shutout Meramec, 14-0

lumbia, Mo. - Playing game two of its Saturday doubleheader on University Field, the Missouri softball team shutout Meramec, 14-0, to improve to 2-0 in fall action. Senior right-handed pitcher Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) was credited with the win after striking out seven of the 16 batters she faced through four innings.

Freshman Kristin Nottelmann (Fenton, Mo.) entered the game in the fifth inning for Missouri sitting down five Magic players during her three innings in the circle.

Missouri scored one run in each of its first three innings at bat. Rightfielder Shana White (Columbia, Mo.) was first to score for the Tigers. Leading off with a single to center field in the first frame, the sophomore stole second, advanced to third on leftfielder Julie Silver's (Chesterfield, Mo.) single to center and scored on senior third baseman Lindsey Ubrun's (Riverside, Calif.) sacrifice fly to centerfield.

The Tigers pushed their second run across in the bottom of the second frame. Leading off the inning, designated player Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa) hit a fly ball to centerfield, bringing junior shortstop Meredith Nash (Peculiar, Mo.) up to bat. Nash singled to left center and scored on catcher Megan Christopher's (Wright City, Mo.) double to deep left field.

White, 5-for-5 on the day, scored three of Missouri's 12 runs, her second coming in the third inning. With one out on the board, White singled to third base, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Silver's single to right field.

Missouri put up six runs on five hits and one Magic error in the bottom of the fifth inning. Big-hitter Thomas crushed the Tiger's first home run of the day, sending the ball deep over the left field wall for a three run blast.

As a team, Missouri combined for 19 hits off of the Meramec pitching staff. White and Silver each had more than three hits in the game.

The Tigers will play a doubleheader Saturday, Oct. 4 beginning at Noon (CT) against Jefferson County.
