Sept. 12, 2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team completed a team building Marine workout on Friday, Sept. 5 under the direction of Gunnery Sergeant James Knuckles, an Assistant Marine Officer at Missouri, in preparation for the upcoming 2008-09 season.

The Tigers completed a one-mile run that included five different team building stations throughout the MU Sports Park. The stations included:

Station 1: Movement to Contact - Ran with rubber rifles and 25-pound weight packs.
Station 2: Re-Supply - Picked up four 2.5 gallon water tanks and ammo cans that weighed 30 pounds each.
Station 3: MedEvac Casualty - Pick up a stretcher with 300 pounds of weight on it.
Station 4: Hand-to-Hand Combat - Wore pads and worked on hitting skills using knees and elbows after a demonstration from a black belt instructor.
Station 5: Buddy P.T. - Working in pairs, one partner ran bleachers while the other did a series of aerobic exercises, including push ups and sit ups.

"I loved the Marine workout," junior Marissa Scott said. "I have a lot of respect for the Marines and what they do. My brother was in the Marines so it was nice to see what he had to go through."
