COLUMBIA, Mo. --The volleyball buzz has grown every year in Columbia, and showing no signs of stopping, the Mizzou volleyball squad hosted its annual Black & Gold Match and youth clinic. With a record of over 300 youngsters, eighth grade and younger, attending the free clinic and a record over 1,475 attending the scrimmage following, it's easy to say that the area is anxious for the upcoming season. As for the play on the main floor, the Mizzou Gold team topped the Mizzou Black team, 25-19, 29-31, 25-21. Junior Megan Wilson combined work on both squads to lead all with 16 kills.
The real drama occurred in the second set when the Gold team was down 24-20, facing several match points before tying the score at 24. The teams went back and forth to end with the Gold team winning 31-29. Freshman Brittney Brimmage had nine kills on a .471 hitting strike in the set to bring the Gold team the victory.
The Tigers will open the 2008 campaign on the road for the first three weekends, starting with the BYU Molten Classic, in Provo, Utah, next weekend. Mizzou will host its home opener on September 21 with Big 12 foe Baylor.
