Mizzou Soccer Earns 1-1 Tie in Preseason Opener

OMAHA, Neb. - Freshman Liz Gayer scored a game-tying goal off a feed from sophomore Krista Kruse to earn a 1-1 tie against Creighton on Thursday in Omaha, Neb.

The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead when Creighton's Kyla Hoskins converted a breakaway chance over keeper Mallory Forst in the 85th minute. The lead lasted just over one minute, as freshman Liz Gayer knocked in a 16-yard shot from sophomore Krista Kruse to tie the game at 1-1 in the 86th minute.

The game remained scoreless for the first 84 minutes despite a 32-5 shot advantage, including 12-2 on shots on goal, for the Tigers in the contest.

Creighton had the games first serious opportunity on a breakaway in the 18th minute but junior goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore jumped and punched the ball over the net. On the ensuing corner, Blue Jay Jordan Bruch one-timed a ball from the near post but senior Lindsay McCoy blocked the shot.

In the 41st minute, senior Kat Tarr headed a shot on goal on a second chance opportunity but the ball sailed over the net got a goal kick.

Sophomore Kari Adam had a chance to put Mizzou on the board in the 55th minute when freshman Jessie Crabtree found Adam at the corner of the box and Adam ripped a shot just over the crossbar from 20-yards out. In the 60th minute, senior Janelle Cordia uncorked on a 35-yard blast to the right post but the Creighton keeper made a diving save to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

Senior Meghan Pfeiffer Mizzou's first goal when she headed McCoy's corner just wide of the far post in the 70th minute. Five minutes later, the Blue Jay goalie stopped a point-blank seven-yard shot to thwart the Tiger opportunity.

The Tigers play their second and final exhibition contest against Illinois Stateat 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17 at Walton Stadium before officially opening the 2008 season at home against Illinois on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
