USA Baseball has announced that 2008 National Team member and Missouri Tiger Kyle Gibson has been invited to join Baseball America for a live web chat Monday at www.BaseballAmerica.com. The chat will begin at 1 p.m. CDT. Gibson will be joined by fellow Team USA member Kendal Volz (Baylor) in the chat session.
Gibson is 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA in nine appearances, one start, for Team USA this summer. The staff wins leader, Gibson has allowed seven hits and four walks with 18 strikeouts over 13.1 innings; opponents are hitting .152 off the right-hander.
Volz has served as Team USA's closer and is six-for-six in save opportunities with a 0.00 ERA over 11.0 innings. In 10 outings, Volz has allowed one unearned run on five hits and five walks with 13 strikeouts, holding opposing batters to a .135 average.
The 2008 National Team is 19-0 this summer following Sunday's 30-1 victory over the Lithuania National Team. En route to winning the gold medal at the Harleem Baseball Week in the Netherland earlier this summer, Team USA defeated Cuba twice and Volz got the save in both games. The National Team defeated Cuba 4-1 in the championship game, marking the first time in the modern era of USA Baseball (since 1984) that any U.S. team defeated Cuba's Olympic Team in an international championship game.
