COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kendra Frazier, an incoming freshman for the University of Missouri women's basketball team, was recently named the Joplin Globe's girls basketball player of the year. Last month, the 6-5 center from Altamont, Kan., became just the third Mizzou signee to earn a Gatorade State Player of the Year award, joining Amy Fordham (Nebraska, 1989-90) and Kelly St. Clair (Kansas, 1985-86).
Frazier led Labette County High School to a 21-3 record and averaged a state-best 25.3 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. She set a school single-game record with 44 points in a victory over eventual state quarterfinalist Fort Scott, grabbing 20 rebounds and recording a double-double-14 points and 10 rebounds-in the fourth quarter alone.
In addition to the her Gatorade Player of the Year honors, Frazier was a McDonald's All-America nominee and earned All-Southeast Kansas League and all-state honors. As a junior she was named all-state second team by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, the Topeka Capital Journal and the Wichita Eagle.
In addition to her prowess on the court, Frazier ranks first in her graduating class with a 4.15 grade-point-average.
