Senior Amanda Renth Nominated as Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Candidate Renth is one of three Big 12 softball athletes in the initial list of candidates
Columbia, MO. - It was announced today that Missouri softball senior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) was one of 30 candidates for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The award acknowledges the best softball player in Division I who excel in the classroom and makes an impact in their respective community. The CLASS award, standing for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, is presented to NCAA athletes in eight different sports and honors a student-athlete's attributes in the "Four C's" of classroom, character, community and competition.
Senior Amanda Renth, one of only three Big 12 players named to the list, was recognized for her work in the field following her junior campaign. Renth managed a .319 batting average with 14 home runs and 59 RBI, helping lead the Tigers to an NCAA Regional Tournament appearance. She also earned All-Big 12 first team honors for the first time of her career, while also garnering Academic All-Big 12 first team honors for the second consecutive year.
Renth looks to improve on her accomplishments both on and off the field in 2008, as she prepares to graduate from the University of Missouri with a degree in biomedical engineering.
Off to a good start on the softball diamond, Renth recently helped Missouri win the Tiger Invitational in Columbia, Mo., by hitting .400 in the tournament. Renth hit one home run and was credited with five RBI.
When Renth is not on the field or in the classroom, the Tiger senior finds ways to help out the community through local volunteer programs. Renth is a member of Missouri's Student Athlete Advising Counsel (SAAC) and has helped coordinate and run several fundraising events.
