FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Word spread like wildfire Friday morning at the Randal Tyson Track Center during the start of the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville. The word, coming officially at 11 a.m., was that Missouri senior Nate Englin (Mounds View, Minn.) was admitted into the national-championship meet and added to the men's shot put field after Walter Dix of top-ranked Florida State scratched from the meet. But, with a shot-put starting time today of 2:30 p.m., central, initial thoughts were that Englin would not make it to Arkansas in time. However, Englin was coming to watch today's activities, will have to barrow his teammate's uniform, but will be able to compete.
Englin, the Big 12 Champion, improved his season's best by three inches at the Iowa State qualifier a week ago to 59 feet, 10 inches (18.24m) to be placed on the preverbal "bubble".
Englin is now one of eight Tigers in the meet. Sophomore Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) has started day one of the men's heptathlon, and after two events, stands in 10th place with 1600 points. Adcock has two strong events, the shot put and high jump, still remaining today.
Senior Elisha Hunt (Linn, Mo.) will compete beginning at Noon in the women's weight throw while senior Trisa Nickoley will run in the preliminaries of the women's 800-meter run at 4:45 p.m.
