Ubrun Shocks Shockers With Three Home Runs In Game Two of Doubleheader

Wichita, Kan. - Junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) helped the Missouri softball team improve to 22-6 on the season by hitting three home runs in the Tigers' second game of a doubleheader against Wichita State. The Tigers won the game 13-5 in six innings, their second win of the season by run rule and 14th consecutive victory. The most home runs hit in a single game by a Tiger in over five years, Ubrun finished the day 4-for-4, scoring three runs and credited with seven RBI.

Ubrun hit two run home runs in the first and fifth frames and a three-run home run on the first pitch of relief pitcher Cynthia Verhulst in the sixth frame. To date, Ubrun has hit a team-leading 13 home runs and stands at sixth in the Missouri single season home run record book. The junior is one homer away from tying Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) for fifth place, 14, and five away from taking the lead away from current record holder Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas).

The Tigers combined for a season high 18 hits, three hits more than the previous high, 15, set Feb. 29 at home against South Dakota State. In addition, Missouri's 13 runs were one more than the previous high, 12, set March 2 against Boston University.

The Shockers rallied in the bottom of the fourth frame, scoring two runs on four hits and pulling within one of Missouri, 3-2. Senior pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) held a three inning no-hitter entering the bottom of the fourth, but gave up a single to leadoff batter Cynthia Verhulst to put the first Shocker on base. Bruck finished the game having hurled five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Sophomore Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) entered the game in the sixth, allowing two runs on two hits. Bruck collected the win, her fourth of the year.
