Columbia, Mo. - Missouri softball player Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) was named Big 12 Player of the Week as announced today by the league office. The honor is the first of Ubrun's Missouri career and second in her collegiate career. Ubrun received ACC Player of the Week honors her freshman year at Maryland in 2006.
Ubrun becomes the second Tiger this season to be named Big 12 Player of the Week, with freshman outfielder Rhea Taylor winning the honor last week. This marks the first time Missouri has had multiple Big 12 Players of the Week since 2006 when current seniors Jen Bruck and Amanda Renth won the award. The last time two Missouri players won the award in back to back weeks was in 1998, when Wendy Harrison and Stacy Gemeinhardt won it on March 24 and April 1, 1998, respectively.
Playing at third base, Ubrun led the Tigers to a perfect 5-0 record at the USF Under Armor Invitational. In victories over Purdue, Long Island, Central Michigan, Villanova and UT-Chattanooga, the Missouri junior hit four home runs, while adding seven RBI, one double, and seven runs. Even more impressive was her .500 batting average and 1.313 slugging percentage. The four home runs give Ubrun a total of 10 for the year, one short of her career high, and the seven RBI give her a total of 32, five short of her career high.
Ubrun and her softball teammates travel to Wichita State to take on the Shockers before hosting the Mizzou Classic this weekend. Missouri starts the tournament Friday at 1 p.m. against North Dakota State.
