Feb. 15, 2008
In 2007, Mizzou Baseball became the talk of the local community, continued to be a viable contender in the Big 12 Conference and put its name in the national spotlight. The Tigers finished with a 42-18 record, tying their fifth-best win total of all-time and, not only advanced to a fifth-straight NCAA Tournament, but hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time in school history.
The calendar has now turned to 2008 and the accomplishments of 2007 have led to higher levels of excitement and expectations at Mizzou. One week from today, the Tigers will open the 2008 campaign at the Stetson University Tournament in DeLand, Fla., facing UConn in the season opener next Friday at 1 p.m. ET (Noon CT).
MU is ranked No. 6 in the 2008 Baseball America Preseason Poll and enters the season aiming for a sixth-consecutive trip to the postseason.
The reigning Big 12 Conference Co-Coach of the Year, Tim Jamieson, enters his 14th season as the Tigers' skipper. Under Jamieson, the Tigers have won at least 30 games in 11 of the last 12 seasons and are one of just 18 programs in the nation that have advanced to the last five NCAA Tournaments.
With six position starters and eight pitchers returning, Missouri looks to keep the streak in tact and not only advance to another NCAA Regional, but beyond.
Tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 16) the first part of a five-part season preview will be posted on MUTigers.com.
