Monday Media Day Chat Transcript: QB Chase Daniel
On Sept. 17, junior QB Chase Daniel answered questions from Tiger fans in an online chat. One of the nation's most exciting signal callers, Daniel was a 2nd-Team All-Big 12 selection a year ago by league coaches. He owns the best career QB rating in MU history, at 139.40 entering the 2007 season, as well as numerous single-game and single-season passing and total offense records. Through three games, Daniel is ranked among the national leaders in total offense (7th, 375 ypg) and passing efficiency (27th, 147.48).

Moderator: Good afternoon, Tiger fans... we're about 15 minutes away from the start of Coach Pinkel's weekly media press conference. Chase Daniel should be by around 4:00 CT. We have a record number of questions; keep them coming, and we'll try to answer as many as possible when he arrives. |
Moderator: Coach Pinkel's presser has disbanded, and various players are beginning their 1-on-1's in the lobby of the Mizzou Athletic Training Complex. KFRU is broadcasting "The Closers" from here as well, and we'll bring Chase in as soon as he's available. |
Moderator: There is one question that was submitted that I can answer myself... |
| Alex, St. Louis: This week you play Illinois State. How much playing time will the starters get this week? Will coach Pinkel save you guys for next week's showdown with Nebraska? |
Moderator: The coaching staff won't determine playing time until Thursday. |
Moderator: OK, Chase is here, and we're set to go... |
Chase Daniel: Alright folks, fire away. |
| Blue Springs: What is your dialy training regimen in the off-season that you do to imporove quickness and agility? |
Chase Daniel: The strength staff does a great job of getting me ready to play on a day-to-day basis. They really focus on getting me on the rubber-band cords, and also the speed ladder. The cords help me push away on my first step faster, and the speed ladder helps with overall agility and quickness and lateral movement. |
| Julie: Chase -- Are you dating anyone?? |
| Sarah (Columbia): Chase, will you marry me? |
Chase Daniel: Actually, I'm not seeing anyone right now, and I'm open and looking. |
| Rob (Bethany): Congrats on the season thus far. If you weren't playing quarterback, what other position would you be playing? I assume RB or WR? |
Chase Daniel: I'd have to go with safety. I played WR my sophomore year in high school, which was a blast. |
| Ryan (Kansas City): Growing up and playing football in Texas...how would you compare the culture of high school football there to what you may have seen in Columbia? If you have seen the TV show "Friday Night Lights", would you say that it reminds you of your high school experience at all? Thanks. |
Chase Daniel: "Friday Night Lights" is a somewhat good example of the atmosphere of what goes on in Texas. Football is life down there, and the movie did a great job of capturing the uniqueness of Texas HS football. |
| Gene Vasper - McPherson, KS: What are your goals for the 2007/2008 season?
Does MU have the talent and desire to win the Big 12 North this season? |
Chase Daniel: I think if we stay focused on the task at hand - which is one game at a time - then the sky's the limit. We obviously want to be in San Antonio come December, but we realize we have to put in the work to get there. |
| Fulton, Mo.: Congrats so far, I think that you run this offense better than anyone. Why do you think you threw the interceptions against WMU? |
Chase Daniel: They were ignorant throws on my part. I was trying to force throws a little too much that game, and it caught up to me. |
| Ben (Honolulu, HI): After having such a great year last year, and your off to great start this year how do you refine your game to make yourself even better? |
Chase Daniel: Always work on the fundamentals, no matter where you are in the season or how old you are. |
| Hryorchuk/Soldner (southlake): Mrs. Soldner and Mrs. Hryorchuk would like to know how are you doing? Did you watch the Dragon game? It was a sad night in dragon country!! |
Chase Daniel: NO WAY!!!! How have y'all been? Everything is great up here. I hope you all are keeping Southlake fun without me. I watched the game, but don't worry, they'll win the state title. I miss ya'll!!! |
| Dolan (Normal): How do you feel about your upcoming opponent IL State??? With the rise of the FCS are you concerned about a possible upset??? |
Chase Daniel: We don't take anyone for granted, no matter who we're playing. Coach Pinkel does a great job of keeping us focused on the task at hand. |
| Buck (Edwardsville): Chase,
Would it benefit, you, 22 and the team more if there were more options coming out of the backfield by extending the scoring drives a little longer to keep the our defense fresh, to keep their defense honest or more off balance and to give you and the o-line a better opportunity to manage the pocket to by detering blitzes.
Buck (Edwardsville) |
Chase Daniel: I think we're at the right spot right now with our offense. We're scoring fast, and keeping defenses off-balance, and we need to keep that up throughout the year. |
| Shannon (Mexico, MO): What game do you feel out of your entire college career you played your most best/complete game. |
Chase Daniel: Probably the KU game last year, and the Ole Miss game this year. I just seemed on-point and focused like never before. |
| Steve Begemann (Jackson, Mo): This is to early to ask, but what are your future plans? NFL or something else? |
Chase Daniel: God has a plan for all of us, and wherever I end up, it'll be in His good will. |
| Houston: This is a question for Chase Daniel. How much easier is going against the MU defense in practice since Marcus Bacon is gone? Marcus Bacon #15 |
Chase Daniel: It's SO much easier now that "The Hammer" is gone. We definitely miss him, though. |
| David (Memphis): How does this year's team avoid the kind of finish we saw last year, with 2 wins in the last 7 games, after starting 6-0? |
Chase Daniel: I think the main thing is just staying focused, and having a positive outlook throughout the year. We didn't finish how we wanted to last year, and we're even more prepared and in shape this year. |
| TERRY BENTE: DO YOU FEEL MORE RELAXED IN THE POCKET THIS YEAR, AS TO LAST YEAR OR 2005? |
Chase Daniel: I definitely feel a lot more comfortable with two years under my belt. It helps ease my nerves each game to know that I've started 16 games. |
| Beckett: Chase, how do u feel about breaking the consecutive-snaps w/o an interception record? do u think that you will have a chance in your last two years to get on the heisman votes board? |
Chase Daniel: It was great to get that record, but it's behind us now. All I'm focused on now is winning the next game. |
Moderator: Well, that's all the time we have for Chase; he has to get on to the media horde to complete his duties there. Thanks for all of the great questions, and thanks to Chase for getting a record number of questions through the queue!
Check back next Monday for another Tiger chat. |
