| Offensive Coordinator David Yost answered questions Wednesday morning. |
David Yost, Mizzou's Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator, stopped by Wednesday morning for an chat on Mizzou's newest signees.
Moderator: Good morning, Tiger Nation! It's been a great morning for the Football program. The team has received signed NLI's from all 23 of its recruits already at this point! |
Moderator: Coach Yost will be with us in about 15 minutes, so continue to get your questions in! |
Moderator: (9:14 am) Coach Yost is finishing up a meeting at the moment. We'll start shortly! |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: Coach w/ out being too specific can you name a player both on offense & defense that has the entire coaching staff excited over his commitment? Obviously ALL of them are just as important but which 2 seem to stand out the most?
Thanks!
MIZZOU RAH!

David Yost: On offense, the group of receivers that we're bringing in are very exciting to the whole staff. On defense, the DB's depth we are bringing in makes us feel excited for the future. |
| Richard (Des Moines): What's the over/under on Fullback questions? I'll take the over. More seriously, can you talk about your strengths as a recruiter and how you play to those strengths? How do other assistant coaches on the staff differ? |
David Yost: Building relationships is the key to recruiting. That's with the recruit, the family, the high-school coach, and anyone else that is involved with the recruit. I think I do a good job of being myself with the recruits, and they know what they're dealing with. I think all of our coaches do a good job of building relationships in their own ways. |
| Leo W. (Prairie Village): what is the toughest position to recruit? |
David Yost: Defensive line, moreso defensive tackle. There aren't that many out there. Everybody wants them, and you can never have too many of them. |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: Where do you see Matt Hoch playing at? |
Moderator: I can answer that. He's listed on the roster at TE. |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: With Gatti's injury will he redshirt?
Thanks! |
David Yost: Definitely a possibility, but we must see where his progress in rehab is when he gets here in June. We want each recruit to expect to play, and then the redshirting is determined during two-a-days. |
| Mike Kansas City: Love this class, congrats,,,could you talk about tristin Holt and Marcus Murphy and their chances to contribute next year |
David Yost: Tristen has a chance to break into our secondary, but will have to move past some experienced players. He does offer the athleticism and all the things we want in a corner, so we may see him move up the depth chart quickly. |
David Yost: Marcus Murphy has all the skills we look for in a tailback, and has been very big in the return game. So that definitely gives him a chance to compete with our current tailbacks and see where he can move to on the depth. |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: What is the status of Chris Freeman & Ty Hill? Will they end up in CoMO? And is Big Chris in A.J. Jordan's ear?
Thanks! |
David Yost: We cannot discuss recruits that have not signed with us in this class. |
| Gary (Bartlesville, OK): Was there a strong network among the commits helping recruit others? Who were the most active. Great job! |
David Yost: The recruits seemed to a lot of communication between them between Facebook, texting, etc. One recruit wasn't the leader in this, a lot of them became friends with each other through the process, both to get guys and to hold onto guys. |
| Robert (Lee's Summit): It seems like a lot of the guys from the state of Missouri are signing with you. How do you think you did in getting the in-state players? |
David Yost: We did good, but not good enough in our expectations. We want every top player in Missouri to come to Mizzou, and until we do that, we will not be satisfied. But the guys we got definitely are a high point of our class. |
| David (Marceline): Coach Yost: Nice class. When will the coaches decide who redshirts and who plays next year? Are there guys in this class you think can play immediatley? |
David Yost: As I said above, we'll determine redshirts during two-a-days. As for guys who might play immediately, there's so many in the class we feel that will have that opportunity. |
| Jay (CoMo): The wide out class looks really good on paper. With Danario and JP likely moving on, what can we expect from this group in terms of next year? |
David Yost: All three signees we feel have the ability to contribute next fall. Now they have to earn the opportunity to play. The competition will be great and great competition makes us all better. |
| Wentzville: Do you guys feel that you were able to expand the normal area that you recruit? We see guys from Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas, is this going to be a positive trend in the future. |
David Yost: The area has kind of expanded as our success has grown. We are seeing more markets and areas and we will go anywhere to get a good player. Coach Henson's addition has put us into some different recruiting areas. |
| Marvin (St. Louis): How does James Franklin compare to some of the other quarterbacks we've had like Brad or Chase or Blaine? |
David Yost: I think he has little parts of each of them. I think he's competitive like Chase was, he's a bigger athlete like Blaine, and has a lot of the traits of Brad as a person and in his work ethic. |
| Derek(Huntsville): Are there any big name recruits who are undecided we are looking to sign today? |
David Yost: The class is done. |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: Is Greg White going to be a fullback?
Thanks! |
David Yost: No, he'll be a tailback. |
| John (OK City): Who was your toughest recruit to land - either this year or in the past? |
David Yost: This year, it was Marcus Lucas. He was the last to commit and we thought it would go a lot longer than it did. Coach Hill did a great job of sealing it up early. |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: With Darvin Ruise out of FL signing and Justin Wilson 'almost' will we see more recruiting in FL from here on out?
Thanks! |
David Yost: Coach Henson will be recruiting Florida, along with the state of Oklahoma, as his two primary recruiting areas. |
| Jeremy (Overland Park): I heard Nick Demien was hurt most of last year. What was the injury and how is his health now? |
David Yost: He had an injury during the season, where he missed part of his season, but was healthy to play in the Army All-American game. He played very well. |
| Joe (Houston): What can you say about the state of Texas, and Mitch Morse in particular? |
David Yost: Texas is a focus of our staff. We have six coaches recruiting in the state of Texas. We have had much success with our Texas players, and feel this is a strength in our program. |
David Yost: Mitch Morse is a big, physical tackle prospect that we think can help us early in his career. |
| Chris (stldynamite) St. Louis: Coach how many of the commits do you believe committed solely b/c of your hairstyle?
Gotta' be at least 1/2 right?
Thanks! |
David Yost: I don't even know what funny comment to put here. Guess we'll just leave it at that. Good question though. |
Moderator: Time for one last question this morning... |
| Jeff (Dallas): What would be tougher to predict: five lotto numbers or the top five producers at WR next season? |
David Yost: We've got quite a few receivers, but I think the odds are better of nailing down the right five than winning the lottery. Either way, we're happy with the receiving corps we've got for next year. |
Moderator: Coach Yost has to get off to another meeting, but we thank you for the number of questions. Apologies to those of you who didn't get your question answered. |
