OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-- - Mizzou has lost consecutive games for the first time since the end of March, falling to Baylor 10-5 on Friday at the Big 12 Conference Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Tigers, who lost their tournament opener to Oklahoma on Wednesday, have dropped their first two games at the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 1998.
Mizzou led by one heading to the fifth inning on Friday before the Bears put together a five-run bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Baylor got six hits in the frame including a two-run single by Matt Czimskey, who had homered earlier in the game and finished with four RBI on the night.
Both team put runs on the board in the first inning, starting with two crossing the plate for Mizzou in the top of the inning. Juniors Evan Frey and Brock Bond led off the game with back-to-back singles and both would score on a double by junior Jacob Priday.
Bond, who finished 2-for-4 against Baylor, extended his hitting streak to eight games which ties his career high.
The Bears answered MU's two runs in the first with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, in which Czimskey connected on a two-run home run.
Senior John McKee tied the game by scoring on a ground out by senior Gary Arndt in the fourth inning. Later in the fourth, Frey gave the lead back to Missouri by connecting on his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to right.
Trailing by four after the five-run fifth for Baylor, the Tigers scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to three. However, Baylor put two across the plate in the bottom of the seventh to put double-digit runs on the board, the first time a team has done that against Missouri in 15 games, dating back to the Tigers' second game of the three-game series with Baylor in April.
Missouri's starter, sophomore Aaron Crow, struck out six and did not walk a batter, but allowed a career-high eight runs in five innings pitched. He took his first loss since April 14 against Texas A&M.
On Saturday, the Tigers will take on Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. on the final day of pool play in the tournament.
